Job and Volunteer Opportunities
Book Clubs
The summer Book Club is open
to middle school students who wish to read and discuss books once a week with a
volunteer mentor. There will be multiple groups based on reading level,
including one for English language learners. The discussions will provide a
space for students to engage with the books and develop stronger literacy
skills like comprehension, prediction, and analysis. We are hosting virtual
sessions during COVID, but can adjust scheduling as Eagle County updates safety
status this summer.
READING BUDDIES START DATE JUNE
10
Wednesdays 4-5 PM: 8 sessions
We will offer a 2nd session if we
have enough students enrolled and would be from 11-12, but have not determined
the day.
The Literacy Project works in collaboration with the
Eagle Valley Library District to pair middle school/high school students and elementary
age children. The big buddy and the little buddy read together, play
reading-based games and participate in group activities. In Reading Buddies, we
match volunteer middle school/high school students with children in
grades 1-3 for an hour of reading time once each week.
The Reading Buddies Program meets virtually for
8-week sessions during the summer break. The 1-hour program includes a group
activity, one-to-one reading, reflection time and games. The purpose of Reading
Buddies is to provide a leadership, responsibility, and community service
opportunities with middle school/high school mentors helping to foster a love
of reading in elementary school students.
